Agrirenaissance: sharing experience about innovations in agri-food sector
The project "Innovation-driven agri-food sectors for a European industrial renaissance" (AgriRenaissance) is financed by the INTERREG Europe programme and is implemented by the consortium comprising five EU member states: Spain (lead partner), Lithuania (National Paying Agency – NPA), Poland, Portugal and Italy. In the framework of the above project, in March 2020, a study visit of the project partners and stakeholders took place in Portugal. The aim of the meeting was to familiarise first-hand with the agri-food sector development in Portugal, to share experience in the area of related innovations among the project partners and stakeholders. Currently the NPA, among other AgriRenaissance-related issues, focuses on planning the implementation of the Lithuanian Action Plan, targeted at the activities that will promote innovations in agri-food sector in Lithuania.

The participants of the project consortium meeting in Portugal shared their experience in applying innovations in the agri-food sectors in Spain, Portugal, Lithuania and Poland, discussed the achieved progress and further activities to be implemented within the scope of the project. The project partner in Portugal, Agrocluster in the Central Region of Portugal, presented their networking experience with research institutions, government officials and non-governmental organisations. The members of the food cluster successfully cooperate with scientific institutions operating in the region (Instituto Politecnico de Santarem, Instituto Politecnico de Tomar, Universidade de Aveiro) to improve quality of food products and develop new food processing technologies. In Portugal the consortium partners also visited a modern agricultural cooperative “Agromais” (potato growing / processing / storage), familiarised with the outdoor environment of the Science and Technology Park “Tagus Valley” as well as with the activities of the National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research.

The NPA as the project partner will continue with the implementation of the Lithuanian Action Plan, the goal of which is the promotion of innovations in agri-food sector in Lithuania. These activities will be performed in close cooperation with a number of the project social partners, including the Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology, the Lithuanian Institute of Agrarian Economics and others.

The overall objective of AgriRenaissance project is to improve regional development policies and programmes under the Investment for Growth and Jobs goal aiming to increase R&I resources and capacities of the agri-food sector, stimulate collaboration between the players of the sector, and foster its hybridization.

AgriRenaissance project is coordinated by the Government of La Rioja, Spain, and implemented by seven partners representing science, business and public sector institutions from five European regions: Spain (Government of La Rioja, Association for Research, Development and Innovation of the Agri-Food sector), Italy (Calabria region), Poland (Mazovia region), Portugal (Central region) and Lithuania (National Paying Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture). The duration of the project: 1 June, 2018 – 31 May, 2022.
