The Monitoring Comittee has recently approved the implementation report of the Lithuanian Rural Development Programme 2014 – 2020  (Programme) for the period 2014 – 2018. A total of 2 billion euros were earmarked for the Programme implemention for Lithuania. More than a half of the sum – 1,2 billion euros were approved for the period 2014 – 2018. During this period 995,33 million euros of support were paid under the Programme and 945, 5 million euros of support were declared to the European Commission.

Through the reported period, all six Programme Priorities and all the targeted areas of the Programme have been initiated, applications have been started to collect and  support has been approved. The biggest part of the support – almost 50 percent – has been paid under the fourth Priority area – biodiversity, water and soil improvement. 37 percent of the funds were paid for increasing the competitiveness of agricultural activities as well as for restoring and preserving ecosystems related to agriculture and forestry. It is the second Priority area of the Programme.

External experts were invited for more detailed evaluation of the intermediate results of the Programme.  General evaluation of the 2014 – 2018 Programme was conducted to evaluate the impact of the Programme on the competitiveness of farms, rural development and the promotion of social inclusion. 3 thematic evaluations were performed in pursuance to evaluate the impact of the Programme on biodiversity conservation (changes in bird population on agricultural land), soil and water improvement and climate change mitigation.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania, the biggest demand of EU funds is most obvious in traditional areas: for young farmers, organic farming, modernisation of agricultural holdings. This type of funding is useful for both: young farmers and experienced farmers – it helps to stay competitive, innovative, to increase productivity and export”.

The Monitoring Comittee approved  new (additional) project selection criteria for  the activity “Support for small farms“ of the measure “Economic and business development“  and for the activity “Support for local roads“ of the measure “Main services and village renewal in rural areas“
