Study visit of the Azerbaijani delegation in Lithuania
Last week the National Paying Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture (NPA) received a delegation from Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani delegation visited Lithuania under the EU Technical Assistance project “Implementation of the support to rural and regional development (SRRD) programme in the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the diversification of the economy and sustainable rural and regional development in Azerbaijan by reducing socio-economic disparities between the regions. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of national and local authorities to plan, implement, and administer programmes directed to enhance socio-economic development of the regions and to support local and national authorities in the prioritization, identification and appraisal of sustainable rural and regional investment projects that have a clear strategic impact in the development of regions and that can be further financed through international funds and/or state budget.
The delegation comprising representatives from the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan, had an opportunity to travel across Lithuania and meet people responsible for rural and regional development on national, regional and local levels.  The study visit was hosted by the NPA.
The visit programme was quite intensive: it comprised meetings not only with the officials of the governmental bodies, including the NPA, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Economy, but meetings with the regional authorities too. The guests met the authorities of the Utena Regional County, the representatives of the Local Action Groups and beneficiaries of the EU structural and rural development support, at the same time familiarising themselves with the projects funded by the Rural Development Programme of Lithuania under the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
According to the project Team Leader Ms Ane Sindik, the members of the delegation will bring back home not only first-hand experience, but also an impressive methodological information pack, which will contribute to the successful implementation of the project.
